Tax refund? What’s that? If you get one, why not treat yourself to something above?
There’s a lot that I love about being a small business owner. For example: being my own boss; managing a fantastic and dedicated team; being creative on the regular; and putting something out into the world that I know reaches and connects with people all over the place.
However, if there is one time of year that I miss not being the captain of the HSS Enterprise, it’s tax season.
I remember the days fondly, when a “bonus” from Uncle Sam would appear in my checking account. Sometimes I was responsible with it and put it (or at least a portion of it) in savings, or a CD, or towards a credit card. Sometimes it became the vacation slush fund. You know, thinking back on it, I guess I always was more or less sensible in how I dealt with it.
But what fun is that?!
Sometimes it’s nice to treat yourself, especially if you’ve been working hard and, therefore, deserve it. So what better time to do that than when you’ve got a fat tax refund burning a hole in your pocket?

However, the question is: what should you buy?
Your first inclination might be to stretch every dollar by shopping for things on sale. But with the seasonal transition, it’s not really the best time to be bargain hunting. Even big retailers like Brooks Brothers have precious little on sale at the moment. And places that are perpetually on sale don’t have much to get excited about either.
My recommendation is to splurge a little. Get that one expensive thing that you consistently back down from or leave in your online cart because you know that it’s something you don’t really need and it costs a little (or perhaps a lot) more than you really want to spend.
