Showing you how to tackle one of the most oxymoronic dress codes with some summer style
Business casual is one of those dress codes that’s just as perplexing, vexing and open to interpretation as it is oxymoronic.
It’s a topic we haven’t covered comprehensively thus far, but one that we are planning to explore in greater detail next month as we revive our monthly editorial theme.
For now, however, let’s agree that the general requirements for business casual attire, include something that is office-appropriate, but not quite as buttoned-up as a typical business-style look.
So what would summer business casual be? Here’s one example.

A cotton suit is typically thought of as a more casual suit option. But that doesn’t mean you can’t wear it to the office. Although a khaki cotton suit appears slightly more sporty, darker colors, like navy or brown, can project more of a “somber” office feel.
The absolute easiest way to transform a business look into a business casual look is to loose the tie. It’s also a good match for the more casual nature of a cotton suit.
If you need to carry a briefcase to work, keep it as simple as your outfit. Our friends from ONA are currently making a superbly stylish option.
As we mentioned on Wednesday, the loafer is one of the all-time greatest casual footwear classics. And for business casual, nothing beats a pair of suede penny loafers.
