The personal touch comes in the form of small details

In partnership with J.Crew and ShopStyle.

One of the “issues” I’ve discovered that guys have when it comes to the thought process of buying clothing, is that there is a desire to be unique and not look like everyone else.

As a result, when it comes to dressing more timelessly with purely classic pieces – think, navy suit, white shirt, khaki chinos, brown oxfords, et al. – they’ll tend to shy away from them. After all, everyone has that stuff and how can I distinguish myself by looking like everyone else? You know?

On one hand, I get it. It makes logical sense. But on the other hand, that attitude overlooks the finer details of menswear and how paying attention to the little things helps make those “classics” your own.

Today, I’m showing you four ways to do just that in partnership with one of my all-time favorite ready-to-wear brands, J.Crew.

Unstructured blazer. An unstructured navy blazer is a must-have spring/summer garment. It’s also one of the most comfortable and versatile. Its lack of canvasing gives is a more relaxed look, not to mention a lot more breathability – especially true with the stretch cotton version I’m wearing here.

Polo shirt. The polo shirt tends to get a bad rap. But we are definitely fans and fully support its inclusion in a well-rounded and classic spring/summer wardrobe. It’s the perfect casual complement to an unstructured blazer.

Lightweight cotton chinos. This spring, give the classic chino a sartorial update. A creased leg and narrow pleats elevates a wardrobe staple from casual to chic.

Driving shoes. Springtime is loafer season. Over the past few years I’ve developed quite an affinity for drivers. For me, no other type of footwear has the same type of timeless, masculine and casual sophistication.
