5 ways to get the most out of your versatile navy suit
If you’re only going to own one suit, it’d better be a navy suit. Preferably in hopsack. Its unmatched versatility makes it a true workhorse garment. From important business meetings to the big job interview to a casual date, you’d be hard-pressed to find an occasion where a navy suit wouldn’t be a good fit. Here are five ways to wear it.
1. All Business
A navy suit will always show that you mean business. It’s also a pure expression of style and class. One of the great things about a navy suit is that it pairs with pretty much any color you want. However, if you’re looking for a classic business look, you can never go wrong with the following formula: white shirt, conservative tie, brown shoes. Killer briefcase optional.
2. Dressed Down
Other than a tuxedo, there is always a way to dress down any suit. One of my favorite methods is twofold. First, lose the tie. And second, throw on a denim shirt. Casual with a sporty edge.
3. Meet The Parents: Pants Separate
If you’re meeting your girlfriend’s parents for the first time, you probably don’t want to wear a full suit. However, you do want to look presentable. A classic OCBD (no tie necessary) under a nice blazer and paired with your navy suit trousers as a separate is a simple outfit that will make a great impression.
4. The Perfect Blazer: Jacket Separate
The best part about the perfect navy suit is that it comes with the perfect navy blazer. But remember that not all navy suits are created equal in this regard. Shinier fabrics will not cut it when it comes to wearing the jacket as a separate – it will look incredibly mismatched, especially with denim. That’s why hopsack is always your best choice.
5. Everyday Dapper
Some people need a reason to wear a suit. But not everyone. If you’ve reached a point where you are comfortable suiting up “just because” a navy suit is a go-to option. Keep it timeless with an ultra classic tie and flex some sartorial muscle by opting for loafers over lace ups.
