A rich and earthy “in-between” brown
If you walked into my closet, you would find it to be mostly a tale of two colors. Of course, you will find a ton of blue but you may be surprised to learn that the other most prominent color isn’t grey, but rather brown.
Ever since my best-ever vintage score I’ve pretty much had “a thing” for browns. They work great with my complexion, they’re timeless in a kind of quirky and cool way, and they’re unexpected. Be the guy wearing a killer brown suit who walks into a room full of dudes in navy and grey and you’ll be sure to attract some attention in the best possible way.

Despite my vast repertoire of brown-hued garments, there was one shade that I didn’t have but had been looking for for quite a while–tobacco brown. It’s rich, it’s earthy and it slots in nicely between chocolate brown and lighter tans.
This particular fabric is a wool and linen blend, which makes it quite versatile. It’s got a little bit of a sheen, meaning that it can be worn more “formally” as I did for an evening out at the Hemmingway Bar at the Ritz in Paris or more casually, as you see here, with a polo shirt and loafers with no-show socks. Yes, you can wear a polo shirt under a suit jacket.
A slight tangent related to the ever-contentious going “sockless” in the summer question. I have tried many different kinds of no-show socks. The ones I have used the most in the past were from J.Crew. I have probably 12 pairs of them. (Sorry, further side note, it’s been a while since I have looked at the J.Crew sock selection, but what the hell is going on?!) They work, but they’re not perfect, as they could frequently be seen peeking out of my loafers.
However, I have recently discovered the best no-show socks in the world. Women’s peds. I’m completely serious. Try them out before passing judgement. And then come back here and tell me they’re not amazing.
