I love fall looks built around textures. Like I said about suede, there’s no better way to add visual interest, depth and warmth to a look. Here are a few ways I’m working texture into my style this fall/winter.
Maybe it’s because my mother is an accomplished quilter, but I am a big fan of quilting, especially on jackets. A quilted jacket has a bit of rugged elegance and is versatile enough to be dressed up for work during the week or dressed down with denim for a casual weekend.
The zipped panel on the inside of the jacket was a trend I spotted in a lot of boutiques in Milan last fall. It’s great for adding a little extra warmth when you need it and also adds more depth via the illusion of an extra layer.

You know I love a good turtleneck and subtlety. It’s hard to spot in these photos, but the turtleneck I’m wearing – like most turtlenecks – has a subtle ribbing around the neck.
Fall is all about the weekend getaway. A small leather duffle fits everything I need (check out that embossing!). And don’t forget that the weather can be very unpredictable. I always bring a sturdy umbrella along just in case.
