Hats are both functional and stylish. And you should have at least one for every season. In the summer, I’m all about the Panama hat, while for fall/winter my preference shifts to a fur felt fedora.
If you remember our very first HSS In Good Company video with Alex Mroz, you’ll know that I’ve been on the hunt for a new fall hat. I actually picked up two that day, including this great rust-colored felt fedora.

The more you wear a hat – and the more hats you wear – the more comfortable you’ll become in them, which will extend to your choice of stye and brim size.

A narrow brim is a good starting point if you’re just getting into wearing hats. It’s a little more casual and versatile. A fedora like I’m wearing here could very easily be your everyday headwear.
The best outfits are always the ones that are held together by subtle details. Like the ones that don’t necessarily call attention to themselves, such as the blue in this blazer’s plaid and the blue of the denim shirt. I love a denim or chambray shirt as a way to dress down a look with a blazer and tie.
Don’t be afraid to mix different patterns. Plaid, herringbone and houndstooth can easily work together. The trick is to vary the scale of the patterns. If one is large – like the plaid here – then go smaller with the others.
